Oh, the dreaded word: networking. I can't speak for others, but for me, this word has always been a bit confusing and terrifying at the same time. I know the article focuses on doing it 'without being a scumbag', but what if you're just terrified? However, without realizing it, I've been networking ever since I started college. If you can make friends and keep in touch with them and professors, you've got this! Then it was making friends at work, meeting up, even hanging out with those who had moved on. Going to AIGA events, volunteering at events... All I really wanted to do was make friends, get to know people—not just those who are still green like myself, but also those who are knowledgeable and care about the same things I do. Putting networking like this makes it less daunting. Don't be a scumbag, be a friend.
